Devta Sahib Temple (Santang) – The Spiritual Heart of Rakchham
In the serene and remote village of Rakchham lies its most revered and culturally rich landmark – the Devta Sahib Temple, locally known as Santang. This temple is not only a place of worship but also a center of tradition, architecture, and community pride.
The temple is home to two male deities (Devta ji) and two female deities (Devi ji), all enshrined with a sacred rath (chariot) that is used during village festivals and religious ceremonies. These deities are deeply respected by the local people and play a central role in village customs and seasonal rituals.
At the entrance of the temple resides Bedhua Dev Ji in idol form, considered the guardian deity of the temple. According to local belief, Bedhua Dev Ji watches over the temple and ensures its spiritual protection and discipline.
The temple itself is a masterpiece of traditional Kinnauri wooden architecture. It features exquisite woodwork and intricate carvings that reflect the artistic legacy of the region. The entrance is especially striking, adorned with two beautifully carved wooden dragons that add grandeur and mystique to the structure.
